Sources:

  1. Holds a transcription of 'Table 17. - Occupations of Males and Females aged 20 years and upwards in Superintendent Registrars' Districts - Arranged in Classes and Orders' taken from Census of England and Wales, 1871. (33 and 34 Vict. C. 107.) Population Abstracts. Age, Civil Condition, Occupations, and Birth-Places of the People. A separate Table is produced for each of the 11 Census Divisions but they have been combined here. Note that in some of the Divisions there are fewer tables, and this table is sometimes Table 13 or Table 15.
  2. This is a full transcription of the data for Registration Districts in the report. Summary data for each county have not been computerised.
  3. Users should note that unlike many of the occupational tables this table contains data for those aged 20 years and upwards. No data is held for those aged under 20.
  4. It should be noted that this table does not contain information on the number of males or females employed in specific occupations. The most detailed occupational resolution available here is at the occupation Order level.
  5. The original table does not contain foot or end notes.
