The village stands on the river Brain, adjacent to the Braintree railway, 3½ miles N W by N of Witham; and has a station on the railway and a post-office under Witham. The parish comprises 2, 228acres. Real property, £3, 429. Pop., 508. Houses, 105. The manor belongs to J. F. Wright, Esq. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Rochester. Value, £.249.* Patron, the Bishop of Rochester. The church is old, and has a wooden belfry and a spire. Charities, £10.
