In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Aston like this:
Aston, par. and ry. sta., Warwickshire, partly in bor. of Birmingham, 14,090 ac., pop. 201,305; pop. of bor. part, 131,661; at Aston Hall Charles I. was entertained prior to the battle of Edge Hill.
