In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Kilcolman like this:

Kilcolman.-- par., mid. co. Kerry, on river Maine, 7751 ac., pop. 2444; contains Milltown, in vicinity of which is the seat of Kilcolman Abbey.
