In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Seapatrick like this:
Seapatrick (or Newtown), par. and vil., W. co. Down - par. (containing Banbridge), 7158 ac., pop, 9014; vil., 1 mile from Banbridge sta., pop. 540. The vil. is suburban to Banbridge.
