In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Newtown Mount Kennedy like this:
Newtown Mount Kennedy, vil., Upper Newcastle par., NE. co. Wicklow, 3 miles SW. of Kilcoole ry. sta. and 22 miles S. of Dublin, pop. 369; P.O., T.O.; situated amid beautiful scenery.
