In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Duncannon like this:
Duncannon, vil., Dunbrody par., S. co. Wexford, on E. side of Waterford Harbour, 9 miles SE. of Waterford city, pop. 479; P.O., T.O. In Duncannon Fort are 3 fixed lights (Waterford) seen 10 miles.
