In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Scarva like this:
Scarva, vil. with ry. sta. (Scarva Junction), Aghaderg par., W. co. Down, on Newry Canal, 11 miles N. of Newry, pop. 186; P.O.; S. House, seat, is adjacent.
