In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Blackrock like this:
Blackrock, vil. with ry. sta., St Finbar, s par., in co. and 3 miles E. of Cork, on river Lee, pop. 707; P.O., T.O. It is situated amid beautiful scenery.
