In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Clonmines like this:
Clonmines, par. and seat, S. co. Wexford, on Bannow Bay, 15 m. SW. of Wexford ry. sta., 1379 ac., pop. 229; contains ruins of an abbey and round towers.
