Place:

Southey  West Riding

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Southey like this:

SOUTHEY, a village in Ecclesfield township, W. R. Yorkshire; 4¼ miles N of Sheffield.

The location is where the name "Southey Green" appears on the modern 1:25,000 map, and less legibly on our nineteenth century First Series map. Additional information about this locality is available for Ecclesfield

Southey is now part of Sheffield district. Click here for graphs and data of how Sheffield has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Southey itself, go to Units and Statistics.
