In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Barnfield like this:

BARNFIELD (East), a hundred in the lathe of Scray, conterminate with the parish of Hawkhurst, Kent. See Hawkhurst.

The association between the two very small hundreds of East and West Barnfield and the minor settlement within Pluckley parish is anything but clear, although they are in the same general part of Kent.
