In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Rhydyborthan like this:
RHYDYBORTHAN, a hamlet in Eglwys-Ilan parish, Glamorgan; on the river Taff, the Glamorgan canal, and the Taff Vale railway, 4¼ miles W N W of Caerphilly. Real property, £5, 814; of which £1, 931 are in mines and £15 in quarries. Pop. in 1851, 1, 412; in 1861, 1, 925. Houses, 405. The increase of pop. arose from the extension of mining and manufacturing operations.
The location is in fact that of Glyntaff station, but this is simply an interpretation of the location given by the Imperial Gazetteer. Additional information about this locality is available for Eglwysilan
