In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Browsholme like this:
Browsholme, school, N. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, 3½ miles NW. of Clitheroe. Browsholme Hall, in the vicinity, a mansion of time of Henry VII., contains, among other interesting antiquities, the original silver seal of the Commonwealth.
