In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Talsarn like this:

TALSARN, or Talysarn, a place in the E of Carmarthen; under the Black Mountains, 5½ miles ESE of Llangadock. T. Hill, a neighbouring summit of the Black Mountains, has an altitude of 2,596 feet.
