Descriptive gazetteer entries

In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Maiden Bower like this:

Maiden Bower, Topcliffe par., North-Riding Yorkshire, 4½ miles SW. of Thirsk; has traces of the Percys' seat, where Charles I. was imprisoned previous to being delivered up to the Scottish army.

This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Maiden Bower by doing a full-text search here.
