Place:

Leylands  West Riding

In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Leylands like this:

Leylands, eccl. dist., in par. and bor. of Leeds, West-Riding Yorkshire, pop. 6209.

The location is that marked as "The Leylands" on a street map of Leeds, described as "c. 1881", reproduced in Vaughan, L., and Penn, A., "Jewish Immigrant Settlement Patterns in Manchester and Leeds 1881", Urban Studies, vol. 43 (2006), pp. 653–671 (p. 657); the map being reproduced is quite possibly an OS 1:2,500 map. The article as a whole identifies Leylands as the main area of Jewish immigration into Leeds. Additional information about this locality is available for Leeds
