Kinmuck  Aberdeenshire

In 1882-4, Frances Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland described Kinmuck like this:

Kinmuck, a hamlet in Keithhall and Kinkell parish, Aberdeenshire, 3¾ miles ESE of Inverurie, under which it has a post office. A neighbouring moor is said to have been the scene of a great battle between the Danes and the Scotch; contains remains of an encampment, supposed to have been formed in connection with that battle; and took the name of Kinmuck (Gael. ` boar's head ') from a tradition that the Scotch slew a boar in their advance.—Ord. Sur., sh. 77, 1873.
