Descriptive gazetteer entries

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Harptree like this:

HARPTREE, a sub-district in Clutton district, Somerset; containing the two Harptree parishes, six other parishes, and part of another. Acres, 16,128. Pop., 3,562. Houses, 780.

This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Harptree by doing a full-text search here.
