In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Woodspring like this:
Woodspring Priory, ruins, Kewstoke par., Somerset, 4½ miles N. of Weston super Mare sta.; the ruins are of considerable extent, and very picturesque.
