In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Kilmallie like this:
Kilmalie, par., Lochaber dist., Argyllshire and Inverness-shire, 273,816 ac., pop. 4157; contains Fort William; in Kilmalie churchyard, 1½ m. W. of Banavie, is an obelisk to the memory of Colonel Cameron, of the 92d Gordon Highlanders, who fell at Quatre Bras.
