In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Bervie like this:
Inverbervie, parl. and royal burgh, Bervie par., Kincardineshire - parl. burgh, pop. 1095; royal burgh (including the whole of Bervie par., and small portion s of Benholm par. and Kinneff and Catterline par.), pop. 2114. Inverbervie received its first charter from David II. in 1341. It unites with Montrose, Arbroath, Brechin, and Forfar in returning 1 member to Parl. See BERVIE.
