In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Edderton like this:

Edderton, par. and ry. sta., NE. Ross-shire, on S. shore of Dornoch Firth, 22,120 ac., pop. 789; P.O.; the sta. is 5½ miles NW. of Tain.
