In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Fearn like this:
Fearn, par. and vil. with ry. sta., NE. Ross and Cromarty--par., 7841 ac., pop. 2135; vil. (Hill of Fearn), 1 m. E. of sta. and 4½ SE. of Tain; P.O., T.O.; part of F. Abbey (erected in Edderton 1221, removed to Fearn 1338) serves as the par. church.
