In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Saline like this:

Saline, par., quoad sacra par., and vil., Fife - par., 8189 ac., pop. 954; quoad sacra par., partly also in Torryburn par., pop. 1038; vil., 2½ miles N. of Oakley sta. and 5½ miles NW. of Dunfermline, pop. 369; P.O.; 1 mile NE. of vil. is Saline Hill, alt. 1178 ft.
