- Table ID:
- MIG_1931_S
(1251587)
- Contents:
- Birth-Places of the Inhabitants of the Counties of Scotland in 1931
- Approx. number of rows:
- 1,406
- Table type:
- Raw Data
- Documentation Author:
- Paul Ell
- Geography:
- Reporting units are identified by:
Unspecified County
- Chronology:
-
The data are for the single year 1931.
Sources:
- This table was transcribed from two separate tables: 'Table 41 - County (or City) of Birth of
Persons born in Scotland' and 'Table 46 - Foreign-Born Population of Alien and Unstated Nationality
by Country of Birth and County (or City) of Enumeration', in Census of Scotland, 1931.
- These data were computerised by the Centre for Data Digitisation and Analysis.
- The tables do not include footnotes or endnotes.
- This is a full transcription of both of the printed table except for a total given for the whole of
Scotland and data for the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen. It should be noted that
where a county figures has been given excluding the population of one of the cities listed above,
we have adjusted the county total to include this total.
- At present this dataset includes only those born in Scotland or in foreign (non-British) countries.
Those born in the remainder of the UK, and UK territories, are not enumerated.
Notes:
- The original tables were both organised with rows giving the place of birth and columns giving the Scottish county of enumeration, but have been re-organised here
so that both place of birth and place of enumeration appear as values in columns.
- Data is included in the printed table for those enumerated in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen. We have excluded these data. County figures include those enumerated in the 4 cities.
- We are currently unsure of the census geography used in this table.
- The table was indexed on the following fields within Oracle: birthplaces and x-county.
- The data for this table was originally not loading when transferred to postgres due to data rows
having different numbers of numeric columns (1 or 3). Pesumably this was caused where the two tables were merged.
Extra empty values have been added to the data file for rows with only "total" values to enable loading.
Checking:
- In the original table, the top row of the table gave the total number
of inhabitants born in each unit, and this was used to check the numbers
listed as being enumerated .
- No matching to the AUO gazetteer has been attempted.
These files have been altered to run on Postgres, but otherwise are exactly
the same as they were on the oracle server.
