1. This table was transcribed from 'Table 51. - County of Birth of Persons born in Scotland'.
2. These data were computerised by the Centre for Data Digitisation and Analysis.
3. The table does not include footnotes or endnotes.
4. This is a full transcription of the printed table except for a total given for the whole of Scotland (used in verification) and data for the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen.

Notes:

1. The original table was organised with columns giving the county of birth and rows giving the county of enumeration, but have been re-organised here so that both counties appear as values in columns.
2. The birthplace field contains a limited amount of information. Only those born in Scotland are recorded by county of birth together with a final column for those born in Scotland with no county stated.
3. Data is included in the printed table for those enumerated in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen. We have excluded these data. County figures include those enumerated in the 4 cities.
4. We are currently unsure of the census geography used in this table.
5. This table originally had the birthplace and location columns identified the wrng way round. Now checked against the original reports and amended to be correct.

Checking:

1. In the original table, the top row of the table gave the total number of inhabitants born in each county in Scotland, and this was used to check the numbers listed as being enumerated .
2. No matching to the AUO gazetteer has been attempted. These files have been altered to run on Postgres, but otherwise are exactly the same as they were on the oracle server.
