NUNKEELING-WITH-BEWHOLME, a parish in Skirlaugh district, E. R. Yorkshire; near the coast, 3 miles N W of Hornsea r. station. Post-town, Siggles-thorne, under Hull. Acres, 2, 220. Real property, £3,082. Pop., 271. Houses, 54. The property is subdivided. A Benedictine nunnery was founded here, in 1150, by Agnes de Archis; and, at the dissolution, had revenues amounting to £51. The name Nunkeelingtakes its first part from the nunnery; and the rest corruptedly from Chil-Inge, signifying "a cold meadow." The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York. Value, £90.* Patron, T.Dixon, Esq. The church stands in the fields; was rebuilt in 1810; succeeded the church of the ancient nunnery; and retains some round pillars of that edifice, together with its ancient font, and with effigies of Sir Andrew Falconberg and a lady.
