PORTMADOC, a small seaport town in Ynyscyn-haiarn parish, Carnarvon; at the month of the river Traethmawr, and at the terminus of the Festiniog railway, 1 mile S E of Tremadoc. It was founded by Mad-docs of Tan-yr-allt; it has a railway station, a post-office‡designated Portmadoc, Carnarvonshire, two banking offices, a hotel, and a wharf; it contains Morfa Lodge, a seat of the late Mr. Maddocs; and it carries on a largeexportation of slates, brought down by railway from the Festiniog quarries.
