Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for SANDFORD

SANDFORD, a hamlet in Warcop parish, Westmoreland; on the river Eden, 3¼ miles S E of Appleby. The manor belonged to the Sand fords, and passed to the Vi-ponts and the Warcops. There are four large tumuli.
