Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Broomholm

Broomholm, an estate, with a mansion, in Langholm parish, E Dumfriesshire. The mansion, on the left hank of the Esk, 2½ miles S by E of Langholm town, superseded an old castle, which was demolished about 1745, and is supposed by Pennant to occupy the central point of an ancient Caledonian town.
