Balerno Railway, an Edinburghshire loop line of the Caledonian, 51/65 miles long, from Slateford to Ravelrig siding. A single line, it was authorised in 1870, formed at a cost of £42,000, and opened in 1874; it four times crosses the Water of Leith, has steepish gradients, and at Colinton traverses a tunnel 150 yards long.
