LUNE (THE), a river of Westmoreland and Yorkshire. It rises 2½ miles SW of Micklefell; and runs about 12 miles, in the direction of E by N, through a mountainous region, to the river Tees at the boundary with Durham, 1½ mile ESE of Middleton-in-Teesdale.
