Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Sunbury

Sunbury, market town and par. with ry. sta., Middlesex, in SW. of co., on river Thames, 4½ miles W. of Kingston upon Thames and 16 SW. of London, 2659 ac., pop. 4297; P.O., T.O., and P.O., T.O. at Sunbury Common, 1 Bank. Market-days, Monday and Thursday. Sunbury is an ancient place, called at Domesday Suneberie. The church was rebuilt in 1752. The town possesses an endowed school, and carries on bream fishing. The par. contains many fine villas.
