Northfleet, par. and vil. with ry. sta., Kent, on river Thames - par. (mostly within the parl. limits of Gravesend), 3934 ac. and 392 tidal water and foreshore, pop. 8790; vil., 2 miles W. of Gravesend and 21½ miles SE. of London by rail; P.O., T.O., and P.O. at Upper North-fleet; has dock and shipbuilding yard; the picturesque gardens of Rosherville are between Northfleet and Gravesend; on India Arms Wharf is Northfleet Light-house, 53 ft. high, with fixed light 48 ft. above high water and seen 12 miles.
