Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Hovingham

Hovingham, par., township, and vil. with ry. sta., North-Riding Yorkshire, 7½ miles NW. of Malton and 28½ miles N. of York - par., 8888 ac., pop. 1164; township, 2853 ac., pop. 600; P.O., T.O.; is pleasantly situated in a rich wooded district, which makes it an attractive place of summer resort. A Roman station once stood here, annd numerous relics have been found. The market charter of Hovingham dates from the reign of Henry III. Hovingham Hall, seat, is in vicinity.
