Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Greenhithe

Greenhithe, eccl. dist. and vil. with ry. sta., Swanscombe and Stone-near-Dartford pars., W. Kent -- dist., pop. 1870; vil., on river Thames, 2½ miles NE. of Dartford; P.O., T.O.; has a small pier, and carries on limemaking from its chalk quarries. From Greenhithe the fatal expedition of Franklin and Crozier in the Erebus and Terror sailed, June 19,1845.
