Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Scalpay

Scalpay, island. Strath par., Inner Hebrides, Inverness-shire, separated from the E. coast of Skye island by Scalpay Sound (½ mile broad), pop. 37; measures 4 by 3 miles, and rises to an alt. of 994 ft.; Scalpay Sound (or Loch na Cairidh) abounds in oysters, and is a rendezvous of the herring fleet.
